DISCOGRAPHY
LOUDNESS adalah nama dari grup band heavy metal Jepang yang dibentuk oleh Akira Takasaki di tahun 1981.
Album pertama mereka berjudul "Birthday Eve"; Album ini cukup sukses di Jepang sehingga mempopulerkan nama Loudness di kalangan penggemar heavy metal Jepang. Setelah selesai merekam album ketiga mereka "The Law of Devil's Land" di tahun 1983, Loudness memutuskan untuk mulai memperluas pasar mereka di luar Jepang dan merekam album keempat mereka "Disillusion" di Eropa.
Pada tahun 1985, mereka menandatangani kontrak dengan perusahaan rekaman Atlantic Records dengan bantuan Joe Gerber (mantan manajer Twisted Sister) dan menghasilkan album kelima mereka "Thunder in the East". Thunder in the East tercatat sebagai album dengan penjualan yang cukup sukses dan berhasil menempatkan diri di posisi #74 di Billboard Charts. Album kelima ini juga merupakan album pertama Loudness yang seluruh lagunya direkam dalam bahasa Inggris. Merekam lagu dalam bahasa Inggris merupakan tren yang banyak dilakukan grup-grup musik Jepang lainnya.
Pada tanggal 14 Agustus 1985, Loudness membuat sejarah dengan mencatatkan diri sebagai grup band Jepang pertama yang melakukan pertunjukan di Madison Square Garden di New York.
Album keenam mereka, "Lightning Strikes" berhasil menembus posisi #64 di Billboard Charts. Catatan penjualan album keenam yang diproduseri oleh Max Noorman ini menunjukkan kalau album Lightning Strikes / Shadows of War laku di Amerika Serikat dan seluruh dunia sehingga membuktikan bahwa Loudness sudah berhak menyandang status sebagai grup band Heavy Metal berskala internasional. Untuk membantu meningkatkan popularitasnya, Loudness sering melakukan tour bersama dengan grup-grup band yang sudah lebih populer sebelumnya, seperti Mötley Crüe, AC/DC, Poison, dan Stryper.
Pada bulan Agustus 1987, Loudness merilis album "Hurricane Eyes" dengan produser Eddie Kramer, salah satu produser musik rock terbaik pada jamannya. Album ini dirilis dalam dua versi, versi bahasa Inggris dan bahasa Jepang.
Pada bulan Desember 1988, vokalis Niihara memutuskan untuk keluar dari Loudness dan diganti oleh Mike Vescera, seorang artis asal Amerika yang sebelumnya pernah bergabung dengan band Yngwie J. Malmsteen. Sayangnya, penggantian vokalis ini juga dibarengi dengan berubahnya gaya bermusik Loudness dari heavy metal menjadi pop metal, sehingga banyak fans mereka yang merasa kecewa dan popularitas Loudness terus menurun sejak saat itu.
Dalam perjalanan karir selanjutnya, grup Loudness sempat mengalami beberapa kali bongkar pasang anggota band, tetapi sepertinya mereka tetap tidak berhasil mendongkrak popularitas mereka kembali seperti di era 80-an.
Pada sekitar pertengahan tahun 2001, Takasaki mengadakan konser dalam rangka memperingati ulang tahun ke-20 dari grup Loudness dengan mengajak semua anggota band Loudness yang asli dari tahun 1981. Konser ulang tahun tersebut disambut dengan sangat meriah oleh fans Loudness di Jepang, sehingga Takasaki memutuskan untuk merekam album reuni Loudness dengan anggota asli Loudness tersebut.
Pada tahun 2006, Loudness mengadakan tur ke Amerika dan Kanada dalam rangka memperingati ulang tahun ke-26 grup band mereka.
